About Me

Hi there! My name is Thoko (silent ‘h’) and I am passionate about building empathy through creative storytelling. As a Zambian-born black woman, I know first-hand what it’s like to be stereotyped and overgeneralized. Because of this, I strive to understand the deeper complexities of all human conditions. This is exactly how I fell in love with creative strategy. Life can be difficult and confusing, and I love trying to decode every minute of it.

I was born and raised in Zambia, where my childhood was filled with interactions with people from all over the world.  At the age of 15, I moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, to attend the African Leadership Academy (ALA). In August of 2015, I packed my suitcases again and headed all the way to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for my undergraduate studies. I don’t just have the travel bug, I seem to also have the semi-permanent relocation bug too. After all, my parents taught me to never shy away from an adventure.

The purpose of this site is to welcome you to a more creative part of my life by sharing the stories and experiences that have shaped who I am today. I’m basically taking you on a journey through my passions, interests, random thoughts and quarter life crises (yes, plural). So prepare for conversations about sexuality, food, music, the Marvel Universe, makeup, fashion, race, gender and travel to name a few. If I care about it, I’ll talk about it.

Welcome to the inner workings of my brain.
